Eight sectors, one framework

Our coverage follows the structure of the DRC Intelligence Brief. Each sector has its own sources, colour code and risk lens.

  • Economy & markets

Growth, inflation, BCC monetary policy, public finance, the Eurobond and IMF programme reviews.

  • Mining & critical minerals

Copper and cobalt output, ARECOMS export quotas, offtake deals, exploration data and the US critical-minerals partnership.

  • Energy & power

Inga 3, new hydropower and solar capacity, power for mines and the 2030 electrification target.

  • Telecoms & digital

The National Digital Plan, tower roll-out, ARPTC regulation and digital identity.

  • Country risk & investment

Sovereign ratings, peace and security agreements, MONUSCO and the investment climate.

  • Banking & finance

Deposits and credit, BCC regulation, the sovereign Eurobond curve and SME finance.

  • Infrastructure & logistics

The Lobito corridor, rail links such as Dilolo–Kolwezi, urban water and cross-border bridges.

  • Agriculture & forestry

Arable land use, export crops such as coffee, Congo Basin carbon payments and EUDR compliance.

The DRC Intelligence Brief

Eight sectors, forty primary sources and a proprietary risk index, in one structured executive report.

The Brief brings together open-source data, institutional sources and field intelligence. The May 2026 sample edition, a consolidated update for March to May 2026, documents three structural shifts: the inaugural Eurobond, the BCC’s monetary pivot and the US critical-minerals architecture led by Gécamines.

  • Proprietary Sector Risk & Opportunity Index, scored on four dimensions per sector
  • Data from the BCC, EITI, ARPTC and ARECOMS
  • A “Big Picture” analysis for each sector, with data visualisation
  • A Signal Décision for each sector: the practical implications
  • An investment thesis with risk-calibrated recommendations
  • New chapter: AI and mineral geolocation (KoBold, Atlas, Xcalibur)

“The DRC is not a bet. It is a calculation: complex, asymmetric in its risks as in its opportunities. This Brief exists to make that calculation better grounded.”

Who we are

Kota Zamba is an independent economic intelligence consultancy focused exclusively on the Democratic Republic of Congo. Founded in Lubumbashi, at the heart of the Copperbelt, we produce field-verified analysis for decision-makers who need more than headlines.

The name comes from Lingala: kota zamba, “go into the forest”. It describes the work: the patient, methodical fieldwork of understanding an economy that most observers watch from a distance. Our clients don’t need another overview. They need the specific insight that changes a negotiation, a due diligence or an investment thesis.

We are not a media outlet, and we do not cover “Africa”. We cover the DRC: its eight strategic sectors, its institutions, its risks and its opportunities, with the depth that comes from being on the ground.

Field presence

Based in Lubumbashi, not London or Johannesburg. Our intelligence is sourced locally, cross-referenced institutionally and verified in person.

Sourced

BCC, EITI, ARPTC, ARECOMS, FAOSTAT, Moody’s, Bloomberg. Every claim sourced, every trend verified: more than 40 primary sources per edition of the Brief.

Actionable

Not just data: implications. Every sector analysis ends with what you can do now, what you should plan for and what you must watch.

Independent

No corporate sponsor, no government affiliation, no advertising. The Brief’s credibility depends on its independence.
